The RL Theory Model - Explained
By the time we have reached our early teens all of us have experienced family members, neighbors, or friends who seem to have life figured out. Nothing much upsets them, at least for any length of time, and they move through the ups and downs of life with a sense of calm and a "we can figure this out" way about themselves.
We like to be around these people. They have a calming effect on us and others, and they seem to be resilient in the face of just about any challenge. We think of them as "winners."
Early on we also run into people at the other end of the "stay calm" spectrum. These people seem to be upset by almost anything unexpected. They see life more as a minefield than an adventure. Their mantra is "Why is this happening to me?" We tend to avoid being around these people. They are anything but resilient. We never think of them as "winners."
In truth all of us are "winners" and "losers" at times.
Spending more time in the winner column is about learning how to manage our anxiety when faced with life's unexpected and unwanted events. We can learn to face challenges with calm as we stay on course and stay connected with others.
Resilient Leadership is lifelong process of becoming less anxious and more at choice during life's major challenges.
